Dr Saima Wazed

Dr Saima Wazed is Autism activist. She is a member of World Health Organization’s as the 25-member Expert at the Advisory Panel on mental health. In November, 2016, Wazed had been elected as chairperson of International Jury Board meeting of UNESCO for Digital Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities. In April 2017, Wazed has been designated as WHO Champion for Autism” in South-East Asia. In July, 2017 she became the Goodwill Ambassador of the World Health Organization (WHO) for autism in South-East Asia Region. Since 2022, she has been a member of the Commission for Universal Health convened by Chatham House and co-chaired by Helen Clark and Jakaya Kikwete. 

In a significant development, in October 2023, Dr. Saima Wazed received a well-deserved nomination as the next Regional Director for the World Health Organization’s South-East Asia region. Her nomination reflects her exceptional dedication to improving healthcare and mental health services in the region.

Holding memberships with esteemed organisations such as the Royal College of Psychiatrists, British Psychopharmacological Association, and British Medical Association, I am committed to upholding the highest standards of psychiatric care and advancing the field.

With a deep-rooted belief in the biopsychosocial approach, I approach each patient holistically, recognising the intricate interplay between biological, psychological, and social factors in the realm of mental health. My clinical expertise extends to managing a wide range of mental health issues, from common conditions to complex and challenging cases. Whether addressing mood disorders, anxiety, psychosis, or personality disorders, I draw upon a wealth of experience to provide comprehensive and evidence-based care.

My extensive involvement in community projects underscores my commitment to promoting mental health awareness and wellbeing beyond the clinical setting. SMR is strictly an online suicide preventive and counselling service providing immediate access to clinical psychologists/therapists/counsellors in most cases. SMR does not deal with actively suicidal cases(If someone is in the process actively committing Suicide). Our psychologists and management are exempt from any responsibility in cases of any such actively committed suicide case if helpline is contacted. Calling 999 or contacting a nearby emergency service should be done in extreme cases.
